The Scenesters

The Scenesters

Week of 3/20

When a serial killer starts picking off beautiful young hipsters on the east side of Los Angeles, a couple of crime scene videographers hatch a plan to catch him before the cops do. THE SCENESTERS is an innovative and quirky murder mystery that both honors and deconstructs the conventions of the classic 'who-done-it?' film genre. The LA-based comedy group The Vacationeers pulled their comedy resources together for Todd Berger's witty and untraditional script to create a completely original film.

"The Scenesters is the movie I keep telling my friends about. It's funny, inventive and unlike anything I've seen in a long time." – USA Today

I Am Comic

I Am Comic

Week of 4/3

Through unprecedented backstage access and candid interviews, the film weaves through the absurd world of the working comedian and reveals a crazy and hilarious psychological profile of its practitioners. We also follow retired comic Ritch Shydner's attempt to climb back on stage after a thirteen-year hiatus. At the top of his game in the 1980's, Shnyder had HBO specials, shot five pilot TV shows, and numerous late night appearances (Carson, Letterman, Leno, etc.) but the big time eluded him. Equipped with the collective wisdom and nutty musings of over 80 of his peers, he gives it another shot.

Does Ritch have what it takes to connect with today's young crowds and still get the laughs? Guaranteed to make you watch.

"More laughs per minute than most comedies this year." – Aint It Cool News

Square Grouper

Square Grouper

Week of 4/17

In 1979, the US Customs Service reported that 87% of all domestic marijuana seizures were made in the South Florida area. Due to the region's 5,000 miles of coast and coastal waterways and close proximity to the Caribbean and Latin America, South Florida was a pot smuggler's paradise. In sharp contrast to the brazenly violent Cocaine Cowboys, Miami's marijuana smugglers were cooler, calmer, and for the most part, nonviolent. SQUARE GROUPER paints a vivid portrait of Miami's pot smuggling culture in the 1970s and 1980s through three of the city's most colorful stories.

Cougar Hunting

Cougar Hunting

Cougar Hunting tells the tale of Tyler, Dick, and Tom… three post college boys who are over their individual failed relationships with girls their own age. They are persuaded by a friend to road trip out to Aspen, Colorado in pursuit of new and fresh experiences - particularly in the form of love from older women. They hope that Aspen will be their saving grace, with clean slates, new reputations, and the proverbially golden paved streets of amorous, sensual, wealthy older woman. Instead, what they find is a unique set of experiences and an eclectic assortment of women who teach them a thing or two about love and relationships.

Our film is not only the tale of three young men in pursuit of these older women, but also that of a variety of so called "cougars" who carry with them their own set of experiences, expectations, and prove far more mature and independent then the boys had anticipated. We highlight an array of women in various stages of life, all ultimately searching for their own unique senses of fulfillment. Whether a domineering dominatrix, a new divorcee, or a liberated new-age hippie, the boys discover "cougars" to be so much more complex then anticipated.

With all the comical mishaps of any surefire hit, the script has the boys paralyzed by their own awkward youth and naïve expectations. They learn that they know little about females or the delicate art of finesse, but ultimately each comes to a more sophisticated understanding of what he is truly searching for – true love.
